More Info on RESTORING

Post by Mark2011 » Sun Feb 13, 2011 1:04 am

I have ubuntu with 3 partition, running as / and /home and /linux-swap. I must archive the / and once that is done, I want to know (please!) explicitly how to restore the / so that the hard drive boots.

On this drive are also the Win "system reserved" as well as the ntfs /windows partions. They can be deleted or made unallocated in this process.

Terminal output of fdisk -l

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 12 96358+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 13 4462 35736576 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3 6503 48641 338481517+ 5 Extended
/dev/sda4 * 4463 6502 16386300 83 Linux
/dev/sda5 7983 47621 318400267+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda6 47622 48641 8193118+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris

There are some unallocated space(s) that will be re-cycled as the disk has Win and Ubuntu re-installed to "bare metal".

I have backups of the /home.
