FSA with dd image files?

Post by veedar » Sun Jun 14, 2009 8:13 pm

Is it possible to run FSA on an image file created with dd or ddrescue?

Often I make images during data recovery and it would be nice to be able to use FSA on them for resizing.

Your must provide fsarchiver a block device that is mountable. If you have a dd image of an hard disk with a partition table and several partitions, you can use kpartx to create /dev/mapper entries which are all block devices to the partitions inside the dd image. And then you can run fsarchiver on /edv/mapper/xxxx created by kpartx.

Thank you kpartx works great.

Note I also used losetup to create /dev/loop0 from a dd partition image file. I was then able to run FSA on /dev/loop0
