./configure fails if PATH does not contain /sbin

Post by mbiebl » Sun Nov 29, 2009 6:42 pm

Running ./configure as non-root user fails:
...
checking e2p/e2p.h presence... yes
checking for e2p/e2p.h... yes
configure: error: mke2fs not found, please install e2fsprogs-1.39 or newer

problem is, that on Debian systems, a regular user does not have /sbin and /usr/sbin in PATH.
I'd recommend to remove this altogether, as it is a runtime depdendency *not* a build time dependency.

I see no problem with this modification. Do you want to make this change in svn ?
I have given you an access to the repository (cf other topic)

Thanks

Thanks, I committed those changes.
Do you have any objections if I remove those files from SVN:

# modified: INSTALL
# modified: compile
# modified: config.guess
# modified: config.h.in
# modified: config.sub

They are autogenerated, and would needlessly clutter the svn history

You are right it really makes sense to remove all the auto generated files from SVN.
Fell free to make that sort of modifications, I can always revert changes in the worst case.

Thanks for your contributions.
