Configure Grub2 for new situation

Post by lordnoxx » Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:37 am

Hi at all. First of all i want to say sorry for my bad english. I am not a nativ english speaker :-)

I have set up several patitions on my internal HDD as follows:

Code: Select all

sda1: WinXP (ntfs)
sda2: Kubuntu 8.04 "/" (ext3)
sda3: "/home" (ext3)
sda5: (swap)
sda6: (ntfs)
As you can see i was using Kubuntu 8.04 and thus Grub1. Now i started using Debian Squeeze. I installed Debian on an external USB-HDD.
And also GRUB2 is installed in the MBR of this external disk. The partitions on that USB-HDD are:

Code: Select all

sdb1: "/" (ext4)
sdb2: "/home" (ext4)
sdb3: (swap)
I plan to use fsarchiver to move my "new" Debian installation from the external disk to the internal partitions sda2 and sda3.

1. Is this possible? (converting ext3 to ext4?)
2. How i have to set up a new GRUB2 so that it suits the new situation and also can boot into WinXP?

Best regards.
